REDKNAPP MAKES DIFFERENCE

The arrival of the former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has made a significant difference to the fortunes of QPR in the last few weeks. Even though they still remain bottom of the table, they have collected several points since the arrival of Redknapp. Redknapp said a few weeks ago that he would like to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window by bringing in a few and selling several players. He has already brought in the French striker Remy for £ 8.5 million, while also agreeing to pay him wages of around £ 80,000 per week.

However, he is not yet satisfied with the rebuilding job at the club because he has recently said that he would like to bring in another striker and the defender before the end of the transfer window. The club are currently in discussions with a Turkish club over a proposed loan move for the defender Anton Ferdinand. Redknapp has revealed that he would like to bring in the former Blackburn defender Christopher Samba and the Stoke City striker Peter Crouch. Redknapp has signed Crouch on four occasions while working with clubs like Portsmouth and Tottenham. Samba, meanwhile, is at the Russian club Anzhi, but is understood to be unhappy at the racial problems in the region.

“These are two players whose names have been mentioned but at the moment we’re not close to doing anything. Crouch’s name came up in a meeting with the chairman but I don’t think Stoke want to sell him. On Samba, again the chairman is dealing with this. At this stage I don’t think that’s a goer. I like Christopher Samba and he is a very good player but at this stage I don’t see him leaving Russia. Things can changes but at this stage we’re not close to doing anything,” said Redknapp.
